Phobia Questionnaires are included in Improving Access to Psychological Therapies because it is clear that some PATIENTS (such people with agoraphobia and social phobia) score below the clinical cut-offs for the Patient Health Questionnaire-9 and Generalised Anxiety Disorder Questionnaire even though their life is significantly impaired by their anxiety disorder.
This is because marked avoidance (such as being housebound) means that they may not experience strong anxious affect on a daily basis. Therefore the Patient Health Questionnaire-9 and Generalised Anxiety Disorder Questionnaire would not be an effective way of measuring clinical improvement in such individuals.
